So last night I overheard my husband on the phone with his mom. I was bringing him tea and heard her say I should be replaced with a woman who can have kids. We’ve been trying for a baby for 3 years and it’s been hard but we never said anything about divorcing. She went straight to that. I froze. Didn’t say anything. He hung up and acted normal. I can’t stop thinking about it. This isn’t the first time she’s made comments either. Last Diwali she brought up some cousin who had twins and kept staring at me. It’s always little jabs like that. We live in a joint family setup so she’s always around. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells. I want to talk to her but I’m scared it’ll make things worse. And what if my husband agrees with her deep down? He says he loves me but why didnt he shut her down on the call. I dont know if I should bring it up with him or try to talk to her directly. I’m so hurt and confused. I love him but this is breaking me.

I remember sitting in my car after hearing my MIL say something similar and just crying until my face was numb it’s that sharp when family crosses the line and ngl it doesn’t get easier but what did help me was talking to my husband first not in a rage just calm and honest I told him exactly what I heard and how small I felt after and I asked him where he stood because if he’s not defending me his mom’s gonna keep pushing he ended up having a real talk with her and it wasn’t perfect but he drew a line you don’t have to confront her alone or even do it now but please don’t sit on this pain it’ll rot inside instead tell your husband in a quiet moment and see if he steps up that’ll tell you a lot tbh
