Family found my texts — now it's a crisis?
So my cousin saw my phone unlocked and screenshot a thread I had with someone I’ve been talking to for weeks. Just casual, flirty messages — nothing physical, nothing promised. But she showed my parents and suddenly it’s like I committed a crime against the whole family. Baba won’t look at me, Mama keeps crying about ‘what people will say’, and my older brother actually said I ‘brought shame’ for texting a guy outside the family circle. Between us, we weren’t even doing anything wrong — we just connected online, kept it private. But now they’re pushing me to delete everything, stop talking to him, and one aunt already mentioned ‘arranging something quickly’ with another family. Look, I get it’s serious, but since when is talking to someone a family emergency? I feel trapped and like I can’t breathe. They’re acting like I’ve ruined our name. I can't say this to anyone else. Inshallah it doesn’t end in some forced engagement... How do I make them see I’m not breaking rules, just living my life?
