How do I stop family comparing my husband?
Every time we go to my parents' house, my mom starts — 'Arre, your cousin’s husband bought her gold necklace last week only', or 'He took her to Dubai for just a weekend, what kind of life is this for you?' I keep quiet, but my husband sees it. He doesn’t say much, but he’s been sleeping at his brother’s place more often. Last night he said, 'I can’t compete with someone who buys foreign trips like they’re samosas.' See, he’s a good man — works two jobs, never misses our daughter’s school events, cooks when I’m tired. But my family won’t see that. They only talk about money and show. I tried telling my mom to stop, but she said, 'We’re just motivating you both.' Motivating? It feels like torture. I love my husband, but I’m starting to feel like I chose wrong, even though I didn’t. How come no one cares how he feels? Why is everyone allowed to weigh him and find him short? It’s breaking us, na? Only.
